Catherine Newman is an Industrial Product Designer & Developer. She utilizes her Phd in mechanical engineering in her work as a bay area/silicon valley-based product developer and to teach product design & design-thinking at the university level. She received her PhD from the University of California, Berkeley's Department of Mechanical Engineering in 2010 with a specialty in design theory & methods. ('Everyday' Designers)

Her dissertation, entitled Information Scaffolding, focused on author-friendly techniques for user-centered information design. (Information Scaffolding)

Her design work has been pictured in the New York Times and Wall Street Journal and has been published in design magazine, ReadyMade.
